Learn To Be Content

Scripture:

10 How grateful I am, and how I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but for a while you didn’t have the chance to help me. 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. 14 But even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. (Philippians 4:10-14 NLT)

Paul had learned how to get along in many situations; including jail and ship wreck. My situations have certainly not been as extreme; thankfully. I do want to be content with what I have, and where I am. I know that has not always been the case. In this season of our life, God is helping us to see the necessity of learning, and knowing, about contentment once again. We have so much, and need so little, and yet there is always something out there that calls out to us; and says, “You really need” this or that. Like Paul, I want to be able to say that I know how to get along happily with little or with much.

I do have much; not just material things, but life and love. I have family and friends who care. I have gifts You have given, and the privilege of using them. I do have much. Thank You, Lord, and I do give You thanks for all. You are my strength, and I love You. AMEN

Father, You alone are the fountain of life, the light by which I live. I drink from Your rivers of delight, and You feed me. How precious is Your unfailing love. Psalm 36
