Count The Cost

Scripture:

28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first getting estimates and then checking to see if there is enough money to pay the bills? 29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of funds. And then how everyone would laugh at you! 30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and ran out of money before it was finished!’ (Luke 14:28-30 NLT)

What an important caution from Jesus! He wants us to think about the things that we have to decide on, including deciding to be a disciple of Jesus. “Check it out”, He says. What will it cost you? To me, one of the saddest things to see is the foundation of a building that someone has had to leave unfinished. It is someone’s dream unfinished; not completed. The foundation of something is so important; including our lives, but if that is all there is, that is sad. I want to have a foundation of faith, but I also want to build on that foundation, and live a complete and full life.

Father, You know that we count the cost over and over, and that whatever that cost may be we want to continue. You give us hope for the future, and we want to build on the foundation and finish well. I love You, and I love Your Word and ways. AMEN

For surely you have a future ahead of you; your hope will not be disappointed. Proverbs 23:18

God, You alone are my refuge, my place of safety and I am trusting You. Your faithful promises are my armor and protection. Psalm 91
