My Place of Safety

Scripture: Psalm 91 (Click Link) 1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. 3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. (Psalm 91:1-4 NLT) Stay Home – Stay Safe. Stay Home – Save Lives. Shelter in Place. It’s interesting how many “catch phrases” are popping up to try and convince us that it’s a good thing, a helpful thing, to stay home. Social media is full of posts and memes about “quarantine” and the frustrations of restricting our activities and staying home. I’m thankful that each morning I can walk Jake the Dog in the desert. Whether we “Stay Home – Save Lives” willingly or grudgingly, it’s a loving, good citizen thing to do right now. And until there are effective treatments for COVID–19, and an effective vaccine to prevent infection, we’re looking at a longish-term period of adjusting to some sort of “new normal”. It really is frustrating to lose our freedom of movement, our freedom to socialize with our friends, our freedom to fly to faraway places, to make road trips, to assemble for church, to go to the movies, or to enjoy a meal with family and friends in our favorite restaurant. But as Christians, we know that doing the right thing isn’t always easy or fun. Let’s focus on a couple of things from Psalm 91 today friends:
• Our truest shelter, safety, and refuge now and always is our God, our loving Father, our caring Shepherd. Our homes may be the shelter from the ravages of COVID-19, but God is our shelter from the frustration, the fear and anxiety, the temptation to become negative and to say and do things that are harmful to ourselves and others.
• God’s Faithful Promises are our armor and protection. This is a time to move from being passive in our faith, from depending only on Sunday services and peer pressure to grow our faith. Let’s proactively take personal initiative to keep our faith strong through God’s Word, to keep our Spirits sweet through personal times of worship and prayer, and to think of what we can do to help and encourage others. Prayer: Father, I will live in the shelter of the Most High and find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. You alone are my refuge, my place of safety. Your faithful promises are my armor and protection. In you alone do I put my trust! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
