Do Not Be Afraid – Psalm 91 Part 2

Scripture: Psalm 91 (Click Link) 5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. 6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. 8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. (Psalm 91:5-8 NLT) We’re facing some Fear Factors these days, friends! Fear Factor One: We’re facing the fear of a disease that stalks in darkness. We know that healthy, younger people may become infected and may have no symptoms at all or only feel poorly for a few days and then recover. We’re glad for that! But we keep hearing about the High Risk Category, people over 65. Jean and I are well into that category! It’s hard not to think about that. It’s hard not to do the math, to think abut the percentages. We need a faith that doesn’t depend on the statistics and the averages! Fear Factor Two: The global economy is crashing and we don’t know how long this is going to continue or how deeply or how personally it’s going to impact us. Governments are trying to prop up the economy. Jobs and businesses are impacted. Every week, record numbers of people are applying for unemployment benefits. Businesses are trying to hang on, but so many are closed by the pandemic response and so many others are hanging on by a thread! Retirement accounts are like a bucket with a hole in it! We need a faith that’s not controlled by numbers and percentages! God’s Word says, “Do Not Be Afraid! Do Not Dread!” Don’t get trapped in statistics and averages and numbers and percentages. Whether it’s fear for your health and the danger of infection, or fear for your job, business, income, and your financial well-being, trust in God. Trust in God and God alone for your protection and provision! Prayer: Father, It’s so easy to get caught up in averages and projections and statistics. We’re inundated daily by scary news reports, forecasts, and predictions that make things look really bleak. Please help us to trust you and you alone for our protection and provision. In Jesus’ Name!
