His Hands - August 2011

His hands, those strong and caring hands, they get me thru when nothing else is able to.
The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24 (NLT)

A couple of years ago, for a Christmas gift my daughter, Stephanie, gave me the most wonderful gift. It was a CD of her singing (her husband, Philip joined in some as well). I had been asking for this for some time and was more than delighted to receive it. Many of songs on the CD are songs that Stephanie has written and so have even more special meaning to me.

The following words are to one of my favorites. I play the CD has I am doing my exercises on the stationary bike, and when this one comes on I close my eyes and many times shed a few tears.

Stephanie wrote this song before she had her son, Jesse. But as Jesse (and my other two grandsons, Jude and Zane) were learning to walk (and, oh so many other things), this song is such a special reminder of God and His love and care for us.

Just like a little child, learning how to walk,
my feet, they trip and stumble,
causing me to fall.

But my gentle, loving Jesus reaches out His
hands and lifts me up to my feet, helping me
to stand.

Then with steady hands that guide me,
He leads me on and on, never, ever letting
go, never letting go.

His hands, those strong and caring hands,
they get me thru when nothing else
is able to.

His hands, those gentle, nail-scarred hands,
in those hands I will stay, forever I will stay.

The lessons I have learned and re-learned as I am watching these precious gifts of God grow and learn. I think about how exciting and special it is when they accomplish a new thing. I think about how I feel when they get hurt or are disappointed. I think about the joy that fills my heart when I hear them call ‘Grandma’ and I get the hugs.

And then I remember that my Father God thinks of me with love and special thoughts and that He is there for me when nothing else is able to help me.

I love my grandsons and I love the lessons I am learning again and again from them.

I cried out, “I’m slipping!” and your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. Psalm 94:18 (NLT)

Do not lie in wait like an outlaw at the home of the godly. And don’t raid the house where the godly live. 16 They may trip seven times, but each time they will rise again. But one calamity is enough to lay the wicked low. Proverbs 24:15-16 (NLT)
