Blank Canvas - January 2011

01 January 2011

As we begin the New Year of 2011, Jim and I have been talking about a new beginning in so many areas of our life. We have a new home with a yard that is pretty much a blank canvas; so what will we do with it. We have a less full and structured schedule; so what will we do with it. We have dreams and ideas not yet fulfilled; so what will we do with them.

When we were staying with Colin and Melissa and the boys in our transition from one house to another, I watched Melissa do some amazing things with a blank canvas. She would paint them, put a pattern that she created on them, and do the necessary stitching. The finished product was always amazing.

Our lives, yours and mine, are defined by opportunities missed and opportunities seized. We need to respond to these opportunities as God-given chances to participate in his purpose. “There are no opportunities in the past.”

So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT)

What an opportunity we have as we begin this year to look at the year as a blank canvas and ask ourselves some questions:

• Who am I – really?
• What is the picture that God wants to create with my life?
• What are the things He has given me to create with?
• How did we get where we are and how is God going to use this time and place?
• What are my personal desires and passions?

The LORD will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me. Psalm 138:8 (NLT)
