Proved Of Great Benefit

Scripture: 24 Meanwhile, a Jew named Apollos, an eloquent speaker who knew the Scriptures well, had just arrived in Ephesus from Alexandria in Egypt. 25 He had been taught the way of the Lord and talked to others with great enthusiasm and accuracy about Jesus. However, he knew only about John’s baptism. 26 When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately. 27 Apollos had been thinking about going to Achaia, and the brothers and sisters in Ephesus encouraged him in this. They wrote to the believers in Achaia, asking them to welcome him. When he arrived there, he proved to be of great benefit to those who, by God’s grace, had believed. 28 He refuted all the Jews with powerful arguments in public debate. Using the Scriptures, he explained to them, “The Messiah you are looking for is Jesus.” (Acts 18:24-28 NLT) Here was Apollos, a man who knew the scriptures well, taught with enthusiasm, and was accurate with what he knew about scripture, and Jesus. The good thing about Apollos was that when he discovered that there was more truth that he did not know, he responded well, and thus became of great benefit to those who had believed. Of course, we need to remember Priscilla and Aquila as well, because they were willing to take him aside and explain things more thoroughly, and not just criticize him. It is not always easy to respond when we are told that we do not know all the truth. I want to remain open to learn as I go, and to be of more benefit to those I influence. Help me, Lord, to be more open to learn and to be taught so that I can be of benefit. Holy Spirit, You are a great teacher, and I thank You. AMEN Father, when You look down from heaven, my desire is that You find me as one who seeks for You, and for real understanding. Psalm 53
