Who We Are

Reading: Ephesians 1-4 11 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, 12 part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. (Ephesians 1:11-12 MSG) In a way, you could say that these two verses are the story of my life. My background did not prepare me to face life with a sense that I could really be somebody or that I could ever accomplish much. My performance in school did not match my potential as indicated by aptitude tests. In high school I spent more time than I should have in the counselor’s office being chided for bad behavior and low performance and challenged to “make something of myself.” Out of school, I drifted like a leaf in a creek, following the path of least effort and resistance! It was in Christ that I found out who I am and what I’m living for. It was only when I realized that God was a loving Father and I was his beloved child that I began to grasp who I am! It was only when I learned that God had created me with purpose and for a purpose that I began to understand why I’m here! It was only when I learned that God had placed gifts in me that were activated by his Holy Spirit to serve his purposes that I was motivated to service, sacrifice, and significance. May you find who you are and what you are living for! May you find your identity and purpose in Christ alone! Prayer: Father, Thank you for who you are and what you’ve done for me! Thank you for who I am and what I’m living for! I find my identity and my purpose in your purpose for me. Apart from my identity as a Christ-follower and apart from your call on my life I wouldn’t know who I am or why I’m here. Everything in my life, every relationship, every responsibility, every role, takes shape around who you made me to be. Thanks for everything! Amen!
