Trust and Release

Trust and Release

Reading: Deuteronomy 3-4; Psalm 36; Mark 13 26 “But the Lord was angry with me because of you, and he would not listen to me. ‘That’s enough!’ he ordered. ‘Speak of it no more. 27 You can go to Pisgah Peak and view the land in every direction, but you may not cross the Jordan River. 28 But commission Joshua and encourage him, for he will lead the people across the Jordan. He will give them the land you now see before you.’ (Deuteronomy 3:26-28 NLT) God called Moses to begin the process of leading his people out of 400 years of slavery in Egypt and into the establishing of a free and godly nation in the land promised to Abraham many generations earlier. Moses had led them through the challenging and difficult process of “coming out” of slavery. Moses had led them through the equally challenging and difficult generation-long process of becoming a people who could respond to God in faith and receive his blessings with gratitude. As Moses reached the final days of his leadership and life, he really wanted to see how it would all turn out. Because of his lapse at Kadesh, God didn’t allow Moses to enter the land. Instead, Joshua led the people in, and Moses’ final task was to prepare and encourage Joshua to lead the next generation into their destiny. (Actually, Moses did get to enter the land after all – 1500 years later! Matthew 17:1-4) We may not get to see the endings! If we want the results of our work to last, we must build on a solid foundation, because others may finish the work after we’re gone. We must train and trust and release others because we won’t always be there to explain what to do next. We must invest in people younger than ourselves so that the effect of our influence will continue. We must trust God that our labor is not in vain.

Do you want to leave a lasting legacy?
• Love those you lead.
• Lead those you love.
• Train, trust, and release others.
• Let go graciously. Prayer:

Father, Please show me who and what to invest in and how to do it most effectively. Not most efficiently, most effectively. Help me to love those I lead and lead those I love. Help me to encourage, trust, and release. And to let go graciously. Amen.
