Today Is The Day

Reading: 2 Corinthians 6; Proverbs 3

1 As God’s partners, we beg you not to reject this marvelous message of God’s great kindness. 2 For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.”  Indeed, God is ready to help you right now. Today is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NLT)

What day is this? Why, it’s Today, of course! Think about it, friends. Every time you look at the calendar, it’s always Today! I’m not just being silly about this, I’m addressing a very real issue that I’ve struggled with and wasted time and opportunity over so many times in my life! I don’t even like to think about how many times I’ve missed the “Today” that God has graciously given me by living in past regrets and disappointments or by living in future anxieties and apprehension.

In the past few years, I’ve had some painful losses and some joyful wins. I’ve had seasons of pain and seasons when life felt pretty sweet! I’m something of a slow learner when it comes to some of the most important lessons, but one of the most important lessons that has ever come my way is that I must fully live this moment. Which moment? This moment! I must be fully present in this moment and present to the opportunities it offers.

The Bible patiently reminds me again and again that, This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24 NLT) This is the day the Lord has made! This day is the only day I have! This moment is the only moment I can be sure of. What I do in this moment, what I do with this day, with Today, is of utmost importance!

If I don’t choose to be fully present in this moment, on this day, I may miss the greatest opportunities of my lifetime! Or it may simply be an ordinary day of chores and meals and interactions and “stuff”. But if I’m not fully present in the moment, present to the opportunities and possibilities, I’ll never know, will I? And neither will you!

Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. (Lamentations 3:23 NLT)

I encourage you to pray this prayer with me Today:

Father, Thank you for the gift of Today! I choose to accept this day, to rejoice in this day, and to seek the opportunities and possibilities you have placed within my reach Today! I am here! I choose to be fully present to all that Today brings. Thank you!
