To Be A Blessing

Reading: Galatians 3; Proverbs 21 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. For you are all Christians—you are one in Christ Jesus. 29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and now all the promises God gave to him belong to you. (Galatians 3:28-29 NLT) Paul was trying to help the Galatian believers understand the richness of the blessings available to them through simple faith in Jesus Christ. Their faith had been corrupted by the legalizers who insisted that faith was not enough – that they must also become Jews and keep the Jewish laws and traditions. Paul plainly states that it is faith and faith alone that makes us children of Abraham and inheritors of the famous promise, “I will bless you and you will be a blessing.” 2 “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3 NLT) As children of Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ, and as an inheritor of God’s covenant with Abraham, God has promised to bless me so that I can be a blessing to others. We can be a blessing through our example, through service to others, through sharing our material blessings, and by speaking blessings on others in the name of the Lord. Think about this as you move through your day today: God’s covenant promise belongs to you! You are blessed by God to be a blessing to others.

How will you be a blessing to those you interact with today—showing, serving, sharing, speaking? Or maybe all four! Will you pray this prayer with me…? Prayer: Father, I receive by faith the covenant promise you gave to Father Abraham. Please bless me today so that I may be a blessing to others. May the life I live today be a blessed example to someone. May the words I speak today bring the blessings of heaven on those who hear them. May my service and generosity today be a conduit of heaven’s blessing to others. Amen.
