This God-Life

Reading: Numbers 34-36; Mark 11

22 Jesus was matter-of-fact: “Embrace this God-life. Really embrace it, 23 and nothing will be too much for you. This mountain, for instance: Just say, ‘Go jump in the lake’—no shuffling or shilly-shallying—and it’s as good as done. 24 That’s why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you’ll get God’s everything. (Mark 11:22-24 MSG)

I love the adventure of reading the Bible every day and expecting to be predictably surprised by a revelation or insight that helps me with my “right now” life.

Today Mark 11:24 predictably surprised me. Again. Jesus was patiently explaining how he operates in the real world – the world that includes both the natural and the spiritual, the temporal and the eternal. Here’s how he does it: He walks day by day toward a divinely determined destiny – the cross of Calvary in Jerusalem, the three-day borrowed tomb, the ascension to heaven, the out-poured Holy Spirit, the book of Acts, everything else ahead, including me today and everything that comes after me – and yet he gives his full attention to a fig tree because it’s breakfast time and he’s hungry.

I embrace this God-life. Therefore nothing will be too much for me. Nothing I face today will be too much for me. If I try to face tomorrow and next week and next month along with today, that’s gonna be way too much for me. But no fig tree or mountain I face today will be too much for me.

I embrace this God-life. I’m slowly learning, sometimes three steps forward and two steps back, to include everything – everything present and future, everything natural and spiritual, every hope and dream, everything big and small. It’s all part of this God-life. As I embrace more of this God-life, I’m learning that praying about everything is often more listening than asking, more letting go than getting, and more about changing me than changing my circumstances. I’ll keep learning to include everything as I embrace this God-life and I’ll keep pressing toward God’s everything.

Father, Thanks for another opportunity to learn. If you’ll be patient with me and explain this one more time, I think I’ll grasp one more piece of it and get it working in my life. I fully embrace this God-life. I will include my everything and so, make one step closer to getting your everything. Amen.
