The Son of Man

The Son of Man

27 August 2017

Reading: Jeremiah 52; Psalm 143-144; Revelation 1

13 And in the center, the Son of Man, in a robe and gold breastplate, 14 hair a blizzard of white, Eyes pouring fire-blaze, 15 both feet furnace-fired bronze, His voice a cataract, 16 right hand holding the Seven Stars, His mouth a sharp-biting sword, his face a perigee sun. 17 I saw this and fainted dead at his feet. His right hand pulled me upright, his voice reassured me: “Don’t fear: I am First, I am Last, 18 I’m Alive. I died, but I came to life, and my life is now forever…” (Revelation 1:13-18 MSG)

What an experience this must have been for John! John had seen the Son of Man wake from sleep in the morning with his hair tangled and matted, he had seen Jesus wearing a robe dirty from days on the road, feet covered with dust and cow manure, he had heard Jesus’ voice as only a hoarse gasping whisper saying, “Son, here is your mother,” just before he gave up his spirit.

Now, nearly sixty years later, as John’s life of faithful service to the Son of Man nears its end, he sees Jesus once more. What a difference this time!

Read John’s description of the Son of Man again. A halo-crown of dazzling white hair, fire-blazing eyes, shining robe and gleaming breastplate, feet glowing like fire-heated bronze, a voice like thunder! His thundering voice declaring, “I am the God who is (see me as I really am!), who was (remember me as I was with you for those three years!), and who is about to arrive (John, I’m coming back just as I said I would. And when I do, here’s what is going to happen!).

I need to remember that the Son of Man, The Lord Jesus Christ, is the God who is and who was and who is coming back soon!

Jesus WAS the Suffering Savior, Jesus IS the Risen Lord, and Jesus WILL RETURN as the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings!

Father, Thank you for the vision of Jesus you gave to John. As I begin reading through the chapters of John’s Revelation of Jesus the next three weeks, please let me see Jesus more clearly than I ever have. I want to see the Jesus who is, who was, and who is to come. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
