My Testimony

Scripture:  John 5:31-38 (Click link for scripture in Bible Gateway)

31 “If I were to testify on my own behalf, my testimony would not be valid. 32 But someone else is also testifying about me, and I assure you that everything he says about me is true. 33 In fact, you sent investigators to listen to John the Baptist, and his testimony about me was true. 34 Of course, I have no need of human witnesses, but I say these things so you might be saved. 35 John was like a burning and shining lamp, and you were excited for a while about his message. 36 But I have a greater witness than John—my teachings and my miracles. The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that he sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has testified about me himself. You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face, 38 and you do not have his message in your hearts, because you do not believe me—the one he sent to you. (John 5:31–38 NLT)

Continuing his response to the Jewish leaders, Jesus tells them…

  • John the Baptist testified of me “This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” You sent investigators to check out John’s message and you know what I’m saying is true!
  • The powerful miracles of healing and provision testify that I have come from God and that he has entrusted his power to me. This power validates my message!
  • The Father himself testifies about me, because those who listen to my message, who believe in God who sent me are changed! They have eternal life and they are no longer condemned by their sins! Just look at them! They’ve already received the Kingdom of God in their hearts and lives!

“Your own law says, ‘In the mouth of two or three witnesses, the truth is confirmed.’ You’ve seen the fulfillment of the prophets’ messages that the Messiah would be given authority to judge, that he would heal the lame and sick, and that through him, life would be given to the dead. So there it is! Three witnesses of scripture, plus the testimony of John the Baptist. If you will believe, only believe, you will join these who have eternal life and who will never be condemned.”

What a gracious, glorious offer, given not only to those who rejoiced at his words and deeds; not only to those who resisted him and harassed him and sought to kill him; but also to you and me and to anyone who will hear his voice still speaking and believe!

Prayer:

Father, I believe! I receive! I add my voice to the testimony that Jesus Christ is Lord!
