Keep Us Centered
22 May 2017
Reading: 1 Kings 8; 2 Chronicles 5; Psalm 99; Romans 3
57 May God, our very own God, continue to be with us just as he was with our ancestors—may he never give up and walk out on us. 58 May he keep us centered and devoted to him, following the life path he has cleared, watching the signposts, walking at the pace and rhythms he laid down for our ancestors. (1 Kings 8:57-58 MSG)
I spent some time this morning reading slowly through Solomon’s Temple dedication prayer in 1 Kings 8. There are some important life-lessons about prayer itself in verses 27-53. But the thing that stood out most to me this morning was Solomon’s prayer that God would keep us centered on him so he could be with us in everything we do.
God has redeemed us to himself in Jesus Christ and has given us his Holy Spirit so he can be with us, within us, and upon us. He loves us relentlessly. He has made himself unfailingly available. Now begins the adventure, the journey, the dance of walking with him in faith…
• He keeps us centered and we keep devoted to him.
• He clears the life path for us and we follow it.
• He places signposts at important turnings and we watch and heed them.
• He beats the drum to set the rhythm and pace and we keep in step.
• He will never give up and walk out on us, but will always be with us.
Father, May you keep us centered and devoted to you, following the life path you have cleared, watching the signposts, walking at the pace and rhythms you laid down for our ancestors. May we be always…
Centered and devoted… Following the life-path… Watching the signposts… Walking at your pace and rhythms… May it be so! In Jesus’ Name.
