Confidence Dependence - May 2007

01 May 2007

Be assured that God is watching over you. (Psalm 121:8)

God is in charge over the world. (John 16:33)

Where do we get our confidence?

· From Knowing God and who He is.

From knowing that God loves me unconditionally.

See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children.’ (1 John 3:1)

From knowing that God is completely trustworthy and faithful.

It is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in people.’ (Psalm 118:8)

‘I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I will give thanks to your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness, because your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.” (Psalm 138:2 NLT)

Is there a reward for trusting God and putting confidence in him?

We are blessed with hope and with confidence.

‘But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have the Lord their hope and confidence.’ (Jeremiah 17:7)

Our confidence in God is a strong and trustworthy anchor for us in times of trials and struggles.

'This confidence is like a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls……’ (Hebrews 6:19a)

We can trust in God to save and hear us as we wait on Him.

‘……I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.’ (Micah 7:7b)

God Takes the Time to Do Everything Right

”GOD, the Master, The Holy of Israel, has this solemn counsel: "Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me--The very thing you've been unwilling to do.” (Isaiah 30:15 The Message)

God has given us responsibility but never control.

“Then the Assyrian king's personal representative sent this message to King Hezekiah:
’This is what the great king of Assyria says: What are you trusting in that makes you so confident? Do you think that mere words can substitute for military skill and strength? Which of your allies will give you any military backing against Assyria?’” (2 Kings 18:19-20 NLT)
