Today's Reading:  Joshua 1-2; Psalm 37; 1 Corinthians 3

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8 NLT)

It’s not what you know, it’s what you do with what you know!

With so many influences in our communication-saturated world and with my own tendency to do what I feel like doing instead of what I know I should do, how could I stay on track if I didn’t read God’s word daily?

Reading God’s Word and taking time to think about what I read – to journal my thoughts while they’re fresh in my mind – is so helpful to me as I try to live my life well and wisely.

When I do my daily reading following the Ready Set Go Plan it takes me through the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice each year. Then I read my daily five Psalms and my Proverbs chapter for the day. I’m not doing this reading out of obligation or superstition, or to earn favor with God, or to always learn something new. I’m reading it to be reminded of things I know and to receive fresh insight on old truths. I’m reading it to be reminded that if I don’t practice and apply the truth I know, I will experience the consequences of my disobedience.

The consequences of not living the truths of God’s Word are not so much the angry judgment of a wrathful and impatient God, but the results of my wrong thought patterns, choices, and actions and the chain of events they set in motion.

God has graciously given me access to his wisdom and his thoughts about life in the Bible. It’s my privilege to study this Book of Instruction continually, meditate on it diligently, and journal my thoughts. This keeps me aware of what is written there, so I can do what it says. I want to prosper and succeed in all that I do.

It’s not what you know, it’s what you do with what you know!

Father, I love your Book of Instruction. I love your word and your truth. Please help me better live the truth I know, the truth I love. Please help me live in the way that makes me prosper and succeed in all that I do. Amen.
