Power To Bless

Power To Bless

10 July 2009

And without question, the person who has the power to bless is always greater than the person who is blessed. (Hebrews 7:7 NLT)

The word “bless” always gets my attention when I come across it in the Bible. Hebrews 7:7 states a principle of God’s Kingdom concerning blessing – that the power to bless is a quality of greatness.

God promised Abram that he would be blessed to be a blessing to others. “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:3 NLT)

Paul explains that the promise to Abraham is a promise to us – to all who believe in Jesus Christ and are therefore the true descendants of Abraham – we are all blessed to be a blessing. 26 So you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and now all the promises God gave to him belong to you. (Galatians 3:26, 29 NLT)

Jesus said we can bless those who curse us and do good to them. By faith we have the power to be great, to rise above our enemies and persecutors and to bless in the most adverse circumstances. “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you…” (Matthew 5:44 KJV)

We are blessed to be a blessing. In Christ we have inherited the power to bless – the potential of greatness. By faith we can rise above pettiness and experience nobility – the Power to Bless!

Father, thanks for the promise of blessing and the power to bless. I purpose to use the power you have given me to bless and to be a blessing. It’s only by grace and it’s only through faith. Help me to live up to my blessing potential. Amen.
