Pour On The Blessings

Pour On The Blessings

09 April 2010

Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 6-7; Psalm 72; 2 Corinthians 9

Scripture:

10 This most generous God who gives seed to the farmer that becomes bread for your meals is more than extravagant with you. He gives you something you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, 11 wealthy in every way, so that you can be generous in every way, producing with us great praise to God. (2 Corinthians 9:10-11 MSG)

Paul said that giving to help those in need is like planting seed. You plant seed and you reap a harvest. Plant a little seed and you will reap a little harvest. Plant lots of seed and you will reap an abundant harvest. Like a farmer planting good seed in good soil, the productive potential for blessing is enormous when we give generously!

Awareness of a need presents me with an opportunity to give. I make the decision whether to respond, with what attitude I respond, and how generously I respond. The giving – the planting of the seed is entirely up to me. The outcome of my act and attitude of giving is entirely up to God.

When I give generously and joyfully God takes over and begins the process of growing my gift into a rich harvest of blessing. The person who receives the gift is blessed, others are inspired to give by the example of generosity, and I will be blessed as the harvest of the seed I have planted grows to maturity.

God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done. (2 Corinthians 9:8 MSG)

This stirs me every time I read it and I know by experience that it is absolutely true! May this promise of blessing tell the story of our lives. Pour on the blessings!

Prayer:

Father, I thank you for the generosity of those you have used to pour blessing into my life. Help me to always remember that part of the blessing I receive is my bread to eat and part of it is seed to plant through generous giving to others. I purpose be a generous seed-planter – to live and give as a channel of blessing. I ask you to pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that I’m ready for anything and everything. In Jesus’ Name.
