Not Rocket Science!

Not Rocket Science!

Godliness helps people all through life, while the evil are destroyed by their wickedness. (Proverbs 13:6 NLT)

As I read Proverbs 13 through 15 today, I was struck by how simple and uncomplicated God’s instructions to us are. Proverbs contrasts wisdom and foolishness, good and evil, hard work and laziness, and spells out the consequences of each so clearly. If you behave wisely, you will succeed. If you act foolishly, you’ll suffer for it. If you live righteously, blessing will seek you out. If you are wicked, judgment is inevitable. It’s not rocket science!

I sat there with my coffee cup in hand thinking about how clear and simple the instructions are and yet how hard it is to make the right choices when you’re under pressure in life’s situations. Unless you daily fill your mind and heart with God’s simple truths, when you’re in the situation, under pressure, it’s easy to make the wrong choice, do the wrong thing, and suffer the consequences.

Moses challenged the nation of Israel as he handed the leadership over to Joshua…

11 “This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you to understand or perform. 12 It is not up in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go to heaven and bring it down so we can hear and obey it?’ 13 It is not beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear and obey it?’
14 The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it. 15 “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between prosperity and disaster, between life and death. 16 I have commanded you today to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, laws, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and become a great nation, and the Lord your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.
(Deuteronomy 30:11-16 NLT)

Each day we make choices with lasting consequences. Filling your mind and heart with God’s Word helps you consistently make right choices. Then you’ll avoid the unpleasant consequences of foolish decisions and enjoy the blessing of righteousness and wisdom.

Prayer:

Father, please give me wisdom to make right choices that produce wise and godly actions. May my mind and heart be filled with your wisdom, both for myself and that I may be a wise and godly influence for others. Amen.
