Not One Detail

Not One Detail

Today’s Reading: Joshua 23-24; Psalm 44; 1 Corinthians 11

“As you can see, I’m about to go the way we all end up going. Know this with all your heart, with everything in you, that not one detail has failed of all the good things God, your God, promised you. It has all happened. Nothing’s left undone—not so much as a word.” (Joshua 23:14 MSG)

Joshua knew he had reached the end of his journey and would die soon. He called the leaders of the nation together and reminded them of the faithfulness of God – God’s faithfulness to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; God’s faithfulness to Israel in Egypt and the wilderness; God’s faithfulness to give them the land he promised to them.

Joshua then explained – reminded them actually – of the blessings of faithful obedience and the consequences of unfaithfulness and idolatry. The point is that God had done everything he promised to do. Now the on-going blessings Israel would experience depended on their response, their faith, and their obedience.

God has faithfully fulfilled his every promise – not one detail left undone. God has faithfully provided the pathway of life for us to follow. Everything is in place, paid for, provided, available. It’s up to us to be faithful – to act in faith, to speak what God has declared is true, to walk into the experience of the life he has made available to us.

There are battles to fight and challenges to overcome, but he has provided the way to experience victory and he will be with us all the way. With Joshua I declare today, “As for me and my house, we choose God and God’s way!”

Father, I thank you for the promise and for your faithfulness. Now it’s my turn to respond in faithful obedience. I purpose to face the challenges (my challenges), fight the battles (my battles), and possess the land (my inheritance) – both for me and as an example to those who follow. I choose the path of life. I choose the life of faith. I choose God! Amen.
