New Strength

New Strength

24 July 2009

27 O Israel, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? How can you say God refuses to hear your case? 28 Have you never heard or understood? Don’t you know that the Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. (Isaiah 40:27-28 NLT)

When you’ve been doing your best, trying as hard as you can, for as long as you can, and nothing is working, it’s hard not to get frustrated and say, “Hey, can’t you see I need a little help down here!?”

When you’ve been praying and asking for God’s wisdom, for his direction, for his help in your situation, and the answer doesn’t come, it’s easy to start feeling like, “Is anybody up there? Is anyone listening? I’d just like to catch a little break if that’s not too much to ask!”

How we feel is real and it’s silly to pretend we don’t get impatient, frustrated, and discouraged. When we feel that way, we’re inclined to think that if we were running things we’d get things taken care of a little quicker.

That’s why God’s Word is so important to us. How we feel is really how we feel. We need God’s Word to re-orient our thoughts so that we remember that how we feel is not how things really are. What God’s Word says is how things really are.

29 He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. 30 Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. (Isaiah 40:31 NLT)

Life is tough sometimes. It wears you down. Even tough guys and gals get weary and feel like giving up.

31 But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NLT)

Wait on the Lord. Not in a hopeless and resigned kind of waiting, but in an expectant, confident, listening, and watching kind of waiting. Don’t give up. Don’t pull the plug. Don’t turn your back and walk away in disgust. Wait on the Lord.

You’ll find new strength. You’ll fly like an eagle. You’ll keep the pace. You’ll get there!

Father, I pray this on behalf of my friends who are reading this today who are weary, frustrated, discouraged, and ready to give out or give up… We affirm that we trust you, that we believe your Word, that we know you hear our desperate prayers, that you know what is best and that you love us with perfect love. Please give us new strength, lift us up so we can fly like eagles, give us strength to keep the pace and to finish the journey. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
