Mercy On Me

Mercy On Me

19 June 2009

Scripture:

But that is why God had mercy on me, so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. (1 Timothy 1:16 NLT)

Sometimes I wonder, "Why me?" Why did God save me and call me to serve him? Why not my brother Skip, popular kid, ROTC Cadet, graduated with honors, Air Force fighter pilot, super achiever, I could go on…? Why not some others in my High School graduating class who had more discipline, more drive, and more determination – who went on to make money, build successful businesses, achieve much? Why did God invest so much in me with what often seems to me like so little return on his investment?

God saved me and called me to serve him so that he could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners, with those who were never voted “Most Likely To Succeed” in high school, and with those who didn’t make the list of “Who’s Who On Planet Earth” again this year.

God had mercy on me so that others will realize that they, too, can believe in Christ Jesus and have eternal life and live that life in a way that makes a difference. Big or small – making a difference. God had mercy on you and me!

Here’s part of the prayer I pray as I begin each day: 5 O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you. 6 Don't let those who trust in you stumble because of me, O sovereign Lord Almighty. Don't let me cause them to be humiliated, O God of Israel. (Psalm 69:5-6 NLT)

Prayer:

Father, Thanks for your great mercy and your great patience with me. What can I say? I love you and am determined to serve you well with the life you have given me. May I help my fellow travelers realize with hope and joy that they can believe and receive and give to others out of the great mercy and grace you have given us. Amen.
