Kind, Tolerant, Patient

Kind, Tolerant, Patient

21 May 2009

3 Do you think that God will judge and condemn others for doing them and not judge you when you do them, too? 4 Don’t you realize how kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Or don’t you care? Can’t you see how kind he has been in giving you time to turn from your sin? (Romans 2:3-4 NLT)

God is righteous and just and fair in dealing with everyone. But the manner and the timing and the intensity with which God deals with each of us is directed and controlled by his qualities of kindness, tolerance, and patience.

God deals with each person as an individual and takes into account all the factors of each life – the factors people know about and the factors they don’t. And don’t forget this – that God in his great mercy does not give us everything we deserve and in his amazing grace does give us much that we do not deserve.

So today I’m going to try real hard to appreciate how good and kind and tolerant and patient God is with me. Wow, when I think about that it’s almost overwhelming! And I’m going to be glad that God is just as kind, tolerant, and patient with others as well.

By God’s grace today I will not compare myself and my circumstances with anyone else – either favorable or unfavorably. By God’s grace I will appreciate God’s kindness, tolerance, and patience toward me and will afford the same to my fellow pilgrims.

Father, I’m sorry for how often I waste your time and mine judging others and comparing myself to others. I deeply appreciate your kindness, tolerance, and patience toward me. I purpose to show the same toward those whose paths cross mine today. May I be an instrument of your peace and my life an expression of your grace. Amen.
