It Was God's Idea All Along

Reading: Romans 1-4
16 So that’s why faith is the key! God’s promise is given to us as a free gift. And we are certain to receive it, whether or not we follow Jewish customs, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe. 17 That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who brings into existence what didn’t exist before. (Romans 4:16-17 NLT)
It was God’s idea all along. It was God’s idea to bless Abraham so that he could be a blessing. It was God’s idea for Abraham to have a son named Isaac, who would have a descendant named David, whose family would bring God’s son, Jesus the Christ into the world to complete the plan. It was God’s idea for Abraham to be the father of all who believe. It was God’s idea all along!
But it happened because Abraham believed God. Abraham believed in the God whose idea it was to bless him. He believed in the God who brings dead hopes and dreams back to life. He believed in the God who brings into existence what didn’t exist before.
What is God’s idea for me? I know God’s idea is for me to live purposefully – to spend the passing moments thinking, acting, and living according to a plan he devised for me – a plan to bless me so I can be a blessing. I know God’s idea for me is to care about the things he cares about. I can’t care equally about them all. I know my limitations. But God has given me the privilege of caring about some of the things he cares about and actually doing something about some of them that makes a difference. If I am teamed up with others who care mostly about some of the things I don’t care about as much (but that God cares about equally) we can make a bigger, wider difference.
I want to live the life that aligns with God’s idea for me. But just like with Abraham, it will happen if I believe God.
Father, I want to know your ideas for me so I can believe you. Father, I believe. Help me overcome my doubts with faith. Because I believe God. I believe your idea for me is the best possible idea for my life. Amen.
