If You Fear

If You Fear

11 July 2009

Scripture:

11 The Lord has said to me in the strongest terms: “Do not think like everyone else does. 12 Do not be afraid that some plan conceived behind closed doors will be the end of you. 13 Do not fear anything except the Lord Almighty. He alone is the Holy One. If you fear him, you need fear nothing else." (Isaiah 8:11-13 NLT)

There’s a lot to be concerned about. If you watch a few adverts on TV you know people are worried about losing their health, their looks, their sex appeal. If you watch the news you know people are afraid the economy is going to fall further and they’re going to lose everything. Bob Dylan sings, “When you think you’ve lost everything, you’ll find out you can lose a little bit more.” Budgets get tighter and meetings take place and people fear manipulation and betrayal at the office that will cut their job. People can fear so much that they become paranoid and begin to think, “Everyone’s out to get me and I’m helpless in it all!”

Isaiah said, “Do not fear anything except the Lord Almighty. He alone is the Holy One. If you fear him, you need fear nothing else.” If I receive this as a word from the Lord for me and if I commit myself to fear (honor, reverence, respect, worship, obey) the Lord Almighty – the Holy One, then I don’t have to fear (worry, mistrust, be anxious, freak out) anything or anyone else.

Join me today in believing God’s good word. Join me today in a whole-hearted commitment to fear the Lord and fear him alone. Join me in not fearing plans conceived behind closed doors. Join me in trusting my life and my family and my future to the one who loves you and me with an unconditional, unchanging, everlasting love.

Prayer:

Father, you alone are the Holy One. I choose the Fear of the Lord over the fear of circumstances, the fear of man, the fear of schemes and conspiracies, the fear of an uncertain future. You are my rock of safety, my fortress against all enemies. I fear you and I trust in you alone. Amen.
