I Tell Myself

I Tell Myself

29 July 2009

1 Praise the Lord, I tell myself; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord, I tell myself; and never forget the good things he does for me. (Psalm 103:1-2 NLT)

Talking to yourself can be a sign of losing touch with reality. On the other hand, talking to yourself can be a means of changing your thinking from emotionally-based thoughts to faith-based thoughts.

David was a master at positive self-talk. He said in another place, “Bless the Lord, O my soul!” In Psalm 103, David listed and spoke aloud some of the benefits of his relationship with the Lord…

3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! (Psalm 103:3-5 NLT)

I’m not as good at this as David was, but reading David’s words helps me get better at it. In my “verses for daily reading,” those scriptures I read every day in addition to my Ready Set Go, I’ve included some of David’s positive and faith building self-talk verses to help me keep my thinking aligned with God’s thoughts – my talk aligned with God’s talk.

Many of the verses that help my most at this season in my life are those that speak of God’s ability to make me fruitful and keep me functioning effectively as I get older. God’s word has great “I Tell Myself” verses for every season and situation of life.

Father, Thanks for your Word which is my daily bread, and thanks for those special verses that you have made personal for me which are my daily vitamins and dietary supplements. You are truly good to me. Amen.
