I Have A Plan

I Have A Plan

12 July 2009

26 "I have a plan for the whole earth, for my mighty power reaches throughout the world. 27 The Lord Almighty has spoken—who can change his plans? When his hand moves, who can stop him?” (Isaiah 14:26-27 NLT)

What an amazing statement – a statement only God could make – “I have a plan for the whole earth!”

I have a plan for what I’m doing today, but it doesn’t take into account the plans of all the people I will interact with and the details of circumstance I will deal with today. My plan falls short of being a “plan for the whole earth!”

It’s better to have a plan than to have no plan. Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.” I need to think strategically and relate my planning to the larger purposes I am aware of – Gods’ purpose for my life, God’s purpose for my church, God’s purpose for my time in history. I know that sounds a little “noble” – “purpose for my time in history..” – but I need to plan in a way that looks beyond the moment and the mundane.

It’s more important to plan than to “have a plan,” and it’s most important to submit my planning to his plan. Only God can have a plan for the whole earth and for all time. He’s the only one who sees enough of the picture to make such a plan and has the power to implement such a plan.

Father, I want to get better at thinking strategically and planning wisely and well, planning in ways that align with your purpose. I’ll work at planning and I ask you to guide me in the wise thinking that requires. Please reveal to me the things that will make my plans better aligned with your plan for me and your master “plan for the whole earth.” Amen.
