His Mercy

His Mercy

Scripture:

4 But then God our Savior showed us his kindness and love. 5 He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit. 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us because of what Jesus Christ our Savior did. 7 He declared us not guilty because of his great kindness. And now we know that we will inherit eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7 NLT)

In Titus 3:3 Paul reminded us of our condition before we came to Christ:
• We were foolish, disobedient, and misled.
• We were ruled by wicked desires and evil pleasures.
• Our lives were full of evil and envy.
• We hated others and they hated us.

Then God saved us. Stop and think about this for a moment. We were a mess, but God showed us his kindness and love! He saved us, not because of the good things we did – we weren’t doing that many good things, actually – he saved us because of his mercy!

When he saved us:
• He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit.
• He generously poured out the Spirit upon us.
• He declared us not guilty because of his great kindness.
• He did all this because of Jesus Christ our Savior.

And now we know that we will inherit eternal life! I’m pushing the pause button right now and I’m going to take a few minutes to think about the kindness and love God showed me and what an amazing thing it is that God saved me.

Prayer:

Thank you, Father, for the kindness and love you continue to show me every day. I was a mess (still got a long way to go!) and you loved me and saved me. You forgave me and cleansed me. You gave me your Holy Spirit. You’re working in me every day to make me more like Jesus. You gave purpose to my life. And you have promised me eternal life! Thank you Father!
