He Knows Your Needs

He Knows Your Needs

12 January 2009

Scripture:

27 “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 28 And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t he more surely care for you? You have so little faith! 29 And don’t worry about food—what to eat and drink. Don’t worry whether God will provide it for you. 30 These things dominate the thoughts of most people, but your Father already knows your needs. 31 He will give you all you need from day to day if you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.” (Luke 12:27-31 NLT)

Observation:

Jesus observed that in the Jewish culture of his day, concern about material things dominated the thoughts of most people. His concern was that this led to worry and anxiety and that it distracted the concern of even his closest followers from the Kingdom of God. His antidote for worry and anxiety was to simply trust in our loving and caring Father who already knows our needs and is fully prepared to provide all we need from day to day.

Application:

Can it be that simple? Can I stop being anxious about providing for my needs and the needs of my family and simply trust in a loving, caring Father who already knows my needs and is prepared to give me all I need from day to day so I can make his Kingdom my primary concern?

Prayer:

9 Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven. 11 Give us our food for today, 12 and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us. 13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13 NLT)
