God's Word To Me

God's Word To Me

08 May 2010

Today’s Reading: 2 Samuel 15-1; Psalm 32; Matthew 25

11 “Besides,” continued David to Abishai and the rest of his servants, “my own son, my flesh and bone, is right now trying to kill me; compared to that this Benjaminite is small potatoes. Don’t bother with him; let him curse; he’s preaching God’s word to me. 12 And who knows, maybe God will see the trouble I’m in today and exchange the curses for something good.” (2 Samuel 16:11-12 MSG)

As David and his faithful followers made their escape from Jerusalem, Shimei, a relative of Saul, walked along the hillside above them showering them with dirt and pebbles and shouting curses at them. David’s warriors wanted to kill Shimei, but David responded in an unusual way. David said, “He’s preaching God’s word to me, and maybe his curses will attract God’s attention and God will turn those curses into blessing!”

David’s attitude was, “God can speak to me through any voice, even someone who hates me and wants the worst for me. And it’s about God anyhow. God is listening, and if what is being said isn’t right, then God will turn it around to bless me.”

I want to learn to hear God’s voice from any source God may choose to use, even from those who speak criticism and cursing. I need to hear whatever God has to say that can help me become the person God created me to be. I know that God is my source and that my reputation and my well-being is up to him.

The bottom line is that God loves me unconditionally, cares for me faithfully and will use what comes my way to further his purpose for my life.

28 That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. 29 God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. (Romans 8:28-29 MSG)

Father, help me to so trust you that I don’t react to what others do or say, even if they are criticizing or cursing me. Help me to take the kernel of truth from everything that comes my way and use it to become the person you created me to be. Amen.
