God’s Plan For Them

God’s Plan For Them

07 January 2009

Reference(s): Luke 7:29-30

29 When they heard this, all the people, including the unjust tax collectors, agreed that God’s plan was right, for they had been baptized by John. 30 But the Pharisees and experts in religious law had rejected God’s plan for them, for they had refused John’s baptism. (Luke 7:29-30 NLT)

The Pharisees so often come across as the bad guys in the gospel stories. Actually, their commitment to God and his laws was the primary factor in keeping Israel from descending into paganism and total immorality.

The problem here is that they were so committed to God’s law and the Jewish religious system that had grown around it that they couldn’t hear God’s voice, know God’s heart, or recognize God’s plan.

Here are some heart check questions for me today:
Am I so committed to observing and enforcing God’s law that I can’t receive and give God’s grace?
Am I so involved in my ministry that I can’t recognize God’s hand at work through others?
Am I protecting my position and missing my potential?
Am I so determined to carry out my plans that I can’t accept God’s plan?

Father, I know that you have a plan for me. Your plan for me is good and it’s a plan to bless me so I can be a blessing to others. Please help me not to miss hearing your voice, knowing your heart, and accepting your plan for me. Amen.
