God's Blessing

God's Blessing

12 March 2009

And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you. (Galatians 3:29 NLT)

Paul wanted the Galatian believers to understand the rich blessings available to them through simple faith in Jesus Christ. Their faith had been corrupted by the legalizers who insisted that faith was not enough - that they must also keep the Jewish laws and traditions.

Paul declares that faith and faith alone makes us children of Abraham and inheritors of the covenant promise, “I will bless you and you will be a blessing.”

2 “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3 NLT)

This morning I read in Deuteronomy 21:5 that one of the privileges of Levite priests was “to minister before the Lord and to pronounce blessings in his name.”

I am a child of Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ. God has promised to bless me so that I can be a blessing to others. I can be a blessing through my example, through service to others, through generous and sacrificial giving, and by speaking blessings on others in the name of the Lord.

Think about this as you move through this day, “I am blessed to be a blessing. It is my privilege to minister before the Lord and to pronounce blessings in his name.”

Father, I receive by faith the promise you gave to Abraham. Bless me so that I may be a blessing. Let the words I speak bring the blessings of heaven on those who hear them. Let the work I do be a channel of heaven’s blessing to others. Amen.
