God Says It

God Says It

20 March 2010

Today’s Reading: Joshua 7-8; Psalm 69; 1 Corinthians 5

Scripture:

Once you have the city, burn it down. God says it, you do it. Go to it. I’ve given you your orders. (Joshua 8:8 MSG)

“God says it, you do it. Go to it!” These words are written in the context of God’s strategy for the conquest of the walled city of Ai. God gave the command to Joshua and Joshua gave these orders to the troops he sent to set an ambush behind the city. “God says it, you do it. Go to it!”

I don’t mean to be simplistic here, but this is the essence of the life of faith in Jesus Christ – “God says it, you do it. Go to it!”

This simple command applies to all of the faith-life of a Christ-follower:

• The things that are foundational to the practice of our faith: repentance, baptism, simple faith in Jesus Christ – “God says it, you do it. Go to it!”
• Those principles that are part of our on-going life of faith: forgiveness, service, worship, generosity – “God says it, you do it. Go to it!”
• Even in the matter of God’s specific guidance for our lives, once we have earnestly sought God’s will and have received his direction – “God says it, you do it. Go to it!”

“God says it, you do it. Go to it!”

Prayer:

Father, I purpose to be simply obedient to your word and your commands. I purpose to obey more quickly when I know you have made it clear to me what you want me to do. Help me to live by Joshua’s simple rule – “God says it, you do it. Go to it!”  Amen.
