God Decided To Save Us

God Decided To Save Us

16 May 2009

Scripture:

8 But let us who live in the light think clearly, protected by the body armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. 9 For God decided to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. 10 He died for us so that we can live with him forever, whether we are dead or alive at the time of his return. 11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:8-11 NLT)

Stop, Think, and Listen.

As I read 1 Thessalonians 5 today, I felt the Holy Spirit prompt me to stop and read these verses several times. I encourage you to do the same. Take a few minutes to think clearly, protected by the armor of faith and love, wearing the helmet of confidence in the salvation God has given you.

God decided to save us. He decided to save you. He decided to save me. Everything else – your situation, my ability to live an obedient life, your successes and failures, my ups and downs – everything else must be seen in light of this fact: God decided to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ. That’s his decision and he hasn’t changed his mind about saving us!

God decided not to pour out his anger on us. You and I sometimes get it right and sometimes get it wrong. We disappoint ourselves and others. If others don’t get angry with us, we certainly are angry at ourselves sometimes. But God decided not to pour out his anger on us.

Our Lord Jesus Christ died for us, so that we can live with him forever, not in God’s anger, but in God’s love.

May you be encouraged and built up by these words today!

Prayer:

Father, Thank you for your eternally irrevocable decision to save us and not pour out your anger on us. My friends and I take a few moments to think clearly today, wearing the armor of faith and love and the confidence of our salvation. We are encouraged and built up by your Word and your words today. Amen.
