God Chose Me!

God Chose Me!

22 July 2009

God the Father chose you long ago, and the Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed Jesus Christ and are cleansed by his blood. May you have more and more of God’s special favor and wonderful peace. (1 Peter 1:2 NLT)

I can remember the painful experience of not being chosen. It’s tough being a kid at recess, playing softball or dodgeball in PE class and not being chosen. The two opposing team captains looking over the group and taking turns choosing the best, the next best, and on down the line and then being the one left – the one that no one wanted on his team but someone had to take. It hurts not to be chosen.

God the Father chose me. God the Father chose me, long ago, not because I was best and would help him win the game, but because he loved me. He chose me and made me holy – he made me acceptable to himself and to the rest of the team. He really wants me on his team!

This gives me the courage to respond in faith and obedience, even when it’s hard. And in responding in faith and daily repentance from my own efforts and daily trust in his “choosing,” I am cleansed and cleansed again. And I’m on his team because – wonder of wonders – He Chose Me!

You know what? Maybe I can even help him win the game!

Father, what can I say. I’m just so thankful that you didn’t leave me standing there looking foolish when the teams were being chosen. I wasn’t left ‘til last. You Chose Me! Thanks. Now please help me play well and be part of winning the game! Amen.
