God Can Be Trusted

God Can Be Trusted

13 December 2009

Without wavering, let us hold tightly to the hope we say we have, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. (Hebrews 10:23 NLT)

We Christ-followers face a lot of challenges, sacrifices, and setbacks in our lives. The people this letter was written to had faced severe persecution. Some had been thrown in prison because of their faith, others had been beaten and mocked, and others had lost everything they owned – because of their faith.

Into each of our lives, there will come times of suffering, sacrifice, and delay. In those times we need a gracious reminder that we’re not just living for the moment, but for eternity. God can be trusted!

Think about this with me: If you’ve sacrificed everything for your faith, then your faith is the most valuable thing you have. If you add up the value of everything you’ve given up by choosing to believe and obey God, then your faith is more valuable than the total of all those things. Do you see it? God can be trusted!

If you’re anxious and discouraged today and you’re wondering if God will come through, if he’ll stand by his Word and his words, let me be the friend who reminds you of the good news. God can be trusted to keep his promise. He won’t let you down!

If you are battle-weary and wondering if it’s worth it – wondering if you made the right choice when you chose to trust God, let me encourage you with these words:

35 Do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord, no matter what happens. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. (Hebrews 10:35-36 NLT)

Father, my mind gets filled up with the thoughts and cares and concerns of right now – the work to be done, the needs to be met, the sacrifices to make. I intentionally focus my thoughts this morning on your faithful promises of life for eternity and purposeful living for now. Thank you for being a faithful Father whose promise can be trusted. For each person who reads this, may these be words of faith. Bring to mind those in my life who need to be encouraged by these words, “God can be trusted!” Amen.
