Reading: Hosea 13-14; Psalm 100, 102; Hebrews 5

Scripture:

1 Now a high priest is a man chosen to represent other human beings in their dealings with God. He presents their gifts to God and offers their sacrifices for sins. 2 And because he is human, he is able to deal gently with the people, though they are ignorant and wayward. For he is subject to the same weaknesses they have. (Hebrews 5:1-2 NLT)

Jesus is my high priest. He was chosen to represent me in my dealings with God. That’s why I pray “In Jesus’ Name.” Jesus can represent me compassionately because he made himself subject to the weaknesses and temptations I experience. Jesus can represent me righteously, because his life was without sin and his sacrifice was pure and satisfied God’s justice.

Jesus deals with me gently because he understands my weaknesses. I must deal gently with others, because I’ve received compassionate gentleness from God.

Prayer:

Father, Please forgive me for being critical and harsh with others. I am subject to the same weaknesses and yet you have been compassionate, patient, and gentle with me. Help me to deal gently with others even though they seem ignorant and wayward. Amen.
