Break Open Your Words

Break Open Your Words

26 December 2010

Today’s Reading: Psalm 117; Psalm 119:81-176; 2 John; 3 John

Break open your words, let the light shine out, let ordinary people see the meaning. (Psalm 119:130 MSG)

When I read this I thought that there are things that contain hidden treasures, only revealed when broken open. The presents under our Christmas tree this year were things lovingly chosen to bring joy to each of us, but we couldn’t see the treasure inside until the wrapping was torn off, the package broken open. God’s Word is like that. God’s Word contains the light of truth, revelation that can only be seen when God’s Spirit breaks it open and lets the precious, hidden light shine out.

I want to be one who breaks open God’s Word and lets the light shine out. I want to open God’s Book and display the treasure hidden inside. I don’t care so much about sounding like an orator or impressing people with my speaking ability (although I prefer not to make a fool of myself when I speak!), but I really want to break open God’s Word so ordinary people can see the meaning.

Father, Please grant me the gift of breaking open your Word and letting the light shine out so ordinary people can see the meaning. Let me do that every time I speak to a group, when I talk with individuals, and when I write. Please. Amen.
