As God Commanded

As God Commanded

Today's Reading: Exodus 39-40; Psalm 15; Acts 12

42 The Israelites completed all the work, just as God had commanded. 43 Moses saw that they had done all the work and done it exactly as God had commanded. Moses blessed them. (Exodus 39:42-43 MSG)

I don’t know if Moses made daily inspections of the work areas where bronze was cast, gold was hammered and engraved, fabric was woven, and wood was carved and fitted. The Bible says that when the Tabernacle and all its furnishings and the garments for the priests were completed and presented to Moses, he could see that it was done exactly as God had commanded.

Hebrews 8:5 says that on the mountain, Moses saw the Tabernacle in heaven. Then he came down the mountain and described what he saw to Bezalel and Oholiab and the other skilled craftsmen and women. They had the ability to take what Moses described and create designs from his descriptions. Then they determined what materials would be required and how those materials would be shaped and formed to create the objects on earth Moses had seen displayed from heaven.

The skills of men and women were used to weave and spin and hammer and fit and mold and carve until each piece was finished and fitted. When Moses saw it all completed, it was exactly what he had seen on the mountain. What God had showed Moses from heaven had been constructed on earth!

That’s how the team creative process can work. That’s how the church, each local church, can be built, grow, and flourish. God shows the leader or leaders what he sees from heaven’s viewpoint. The leader gets the picture clear and describes it to people with the talents, skills, and abilities to create a design from a word-picture. Everyone who is willing contributes what they have to provide resources. Skilled people construct various parts according to their passion and skills. Then, when it all comes together, it matches what God revealed at the beginning. And God blesses it and inhabits it.

Father, We are committed to being part of the team that builds on earth what exists in heaven. “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Help us to faithfully build the tent that you will be pleased to live in. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
