Today’s Reading: Romans 5-8

38 I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, 39 high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. (Romans 8:38-39 MSG)

Reading chapters 5 through 8 of Romans is so helpful to me. I stop again and again as I read through it and think about how it pictures my life as a Christ-follower and the battles I fight and the struggles I face.

What Paul says here helps me understand the futility of self-help schemes, the pitfall of legalism, the reality that the only hope of overcoming my old selfish self is through what Jesus did and not through what I can do.

It also helps me get past the disappointments with myself and the discouragement of my personal failure to live up to God’s expectations and even my own expectations. Paul gives me hope!

I’m absolutely convinced! I’m going to make it! I’m going to make it because my Father God loves me and my Master Jesus won’t give up on me!

Father, Thanks for loving me as your own child. Thanks for allowing me to call you Daddy! Master Jesus, Thanks for sacrificing yourself to save me from my sorry self. Thanks for the hope you’ve given me that I will become what you created me to be because you will never give up on me. Amen and Amen!
