Absolutely Convinced

Absolutely Convinced

23 May 2009

Scripture:

20 Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. 21 He was absolutely convinced that God was able to do anything he promised. 22 And because of Abraham’s faith, God declared him to be righteous. (Romans 4:20-22 NLT)

Abraham’s faith grew stronger with the passing of time. Even though the passing of time made it seem as if God’s promise of a son was becoming more and more unlikely (impossible?) with each passing day, month, year, Abraham’s faith grew stronger.

The challenges that life brings to our faith will make our faith stronger if we choose to believe God’s promises.

• Abraham was absolutely convinced that God was… I’m absolutely convinced that the God of the universe was then and is now… I believe in God!

• Abraham was absolutely convinced that God was able to do anything… I’m absolutely convinced that God can do anything. He is omnipotent! There is nothing he can’t do!

• Abraham was absolutely convinced that God was able to do anything he promised… I’m absolutely convinced that God makes promises and is able to keep them. He made promises to Abraham and he makes promises to me! Those promises are good promises and I can find them in the Bible. When I find them in the Bible, the Holy Spirit makes them come alive to me and I can choose to believe them. In fact, when I choose to believe God’s promises to me, I become absolutely convinced and my faith grows stronger!

Prayer:

Father, I choose to be absolutely convinced that you are and that you are able to do anything you promise! Thanks for the gift of your Word, the Bible, that gives me a basis for faith and thanks for the gift of faith to believe your promises. I believe in you and I believe you will do all that you have promised to me! Amen.
