The Power of Prayer

Scripture:

13 Anyone who is having troubles should pray. Anyone who is happy should sing praises. 14 Anyone who is sick should call the church’s elders. They should pray for and pour oil on the person in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer that is said with faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will heal that person. And if the person has sinned, the sins will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so God can heal you. When a believing person prays, great things happen. 17 Elijah was a human being just like us. He prayed that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years! 18 Then Elijah prayed again, and the rain came down from the sky, and the land produced crops again. (James 5:13-18 NCV)

Observation:

Prayer and praying for each other should be a way of life. James says here that if you hurt; pray. If you feel great; sing. If you are sick; ask for prayer and believe. Confess and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed.

Application:

How often do I pray first in difficult situations? Not often enough I’m sure. I want to make that more a way of life for me. I don’t need to wait for a certain time that I’ve set aside to pray. I can pray and should pray at those times, but I can also pray at any time the need arises. But even more important is that I pray believing prayers; not just doing the act of praying.

Prayer:

Lord, I do believe that when I pray you hear and you answer. It is not always the answer I thought I wanted, but if it is your answer I am satisfied. Thank you today for our little Zane; one year old and such a sweet baby. I love you. AMEN

Lord, my desire is to be a good person and live an honest life so that I will be a blessing to my children and grandchildren. Proverbs 20:7
